Human menopausal gonadotropin (menotropins) is a purified preparation of two glycoprotein hormones, FSH and LH, in an approximately 1:1 ratio. Each is a heterodimer of a shared alpha subunit and a hormone-specific beta subunit that confers receptor selectivity. Structural biology studies have resolved the FSH receptor as a class A G-protein-coupled receptor with an extended leucine-rich-repeat extracellular hormone-binding domain, a hinge/signal-specificity subdomain, and a seven-transmembrane-helix signaling core.
